In Chinese Medicine, Spring is a time of purification, and a time to focus on your liver and gallbladder to aide in this function. I'm not
usually one to fast-- I like food too much-- and my active lifestyle makes drastic action too draining. But, one of my favorite ways to do a light Spring Cleaning is to simplify my diet for a few
days. Try this basic, nourishing boost and start the season swinging:
Three Day Spring Clean:
From the time you wake up until noon, stick to fruit. Including: Citrus, green apples and kiwis. (The liver loves sour flavors!) You can juice, lightly cook, or
eat these raw. Drink lots of fluids including water and herbal tea.
From noon until a few hours before bed:
Choose veggies such as asparagus, artichokes, broccoli, cabbage, leafy greens, bitter greens, parsley, potatoes with skins, olive oil and sprouts. Again, lots of fluids. Steam, saute, juice or
After three days, begin to add back in:
Whole grains, such as barley and oats
Lean meat or fish, such as chicken or trout
Raw dairy (yogurt, milk, fresh cheese)
Savor, enlighten, enjoy.
